My First Slipcover: A Burlap and Muslin Settee

Burlap and muslin slipcover

This little settee was cute
in 1980!

Some heavy muslin was laying around screaming to get
used. The heavy muslin makes up the seating area
and since I had purchased a huge bolt of 60" burlap I thought
I had better start making use of it. Then I dove into the numerous
slip cover books I had purchased and this is what I ended up with:

Side tabs are attached with velcro. Around the top is just a loop.

Velcro all the way around the bottom for the skirt

Bow ties on side are burlap, of course!

I'm so happy with the way it turned out that I started my junk store wing chair
slipcover.  It's so much easier than I thought it would be.

Now it will be about an hour before my kitties are on it getting it all furry!
Oh...I made the "Paris" pillow just a few days ago.  Here is my tutorial on how I did that:

  4. It is beautiful! I love your welcoming home and your blog. Very nice job.

Thank you very much for your kind comments about my weight loss and for entering my book giveaway. You are right. The day of our wedding I was only 120 pounds and a size 4. Well that was over eleven years ago and we all know what happens when we overeat and stop the consistent exercising. I'm really embarrassed I even let myself get to that point. Yikes! I know you can do it too! Whatever your goals may be they are obtainable through healthy eating and consistency. Good luck my friend! You are always welcome to stop by for a visit anytime. You are very kind and I appreciate you.

    Blessings, ~Melissa :)

  5. Very cute! I love burlap too. I just did a post using burlap as the main ingredient in a table setting. I notice you even have burlap on your side bar! Don't you just love burlap?

  6. It really looks cute! You did a wonderful job. And, yes, they are not as hard to make as you would think. They are just time consuming and you have to keep all of the fabric straight, so you don't sew the wrong thing. I have found I get better and better the more I do.

  14. your slip cover turned out darling, burlap is not the easiest material to sew on. I own a small shop in Oakridge OR called Somewhere In Time and I do most of the sewing. I have made a few burlap hand towells for the garden, a burlap bag, spron, pillows and runners, they turn out great and wash up great but you must own an iron and know how to use it! Blog me sometime:www.http://somewhereintime2007.blogspot.com
